Type: Feature Film (still in production)
Role: Costume Stylist
Director: Daniel Armstrong
TARNATION is the latest horror film from Daniel Armstrong, director of international cult hit Murderdrome and sci-fi splatstick Sheborg Massacre. Tarnation follows the story of Oscar and her ill-fated trip to a creepy cabin in the woods that is inhabited by, amongst other things, a demon unicorn and a possessed Kangaroo.
As Costume Stylist I put together wardrobe for all main characters in the film, including outfit changes for most of them throughout. I worked alongside Rachael Lee Perks of Dr Strange who created several custom pieces for the film.
I sourced wardrobe both locally and online, utilising new and vintage pieces. My brief was to use a lot of bright colours, and no black. The main character, Oscar, was to wear blue, red and yellow in all of her outfits.
A particular challenge was creating an inverse look for an evil version of the main character—the same outfit, in opposite colours (and no black/white was allowed!).
Because filming was taking place in a remote location, I also devised a wardrobe system including a printed catalogue, numbering system, and scene-by-scene breakdown that could be referred to quickly and easily on set.
Tarnation is currently in post-production.
